DIFFERENT nOISE
Our
Team
Different Noise is a new organisation. The team behind Different Noise are Gemma, Josh, Kim, Mark, Niki and Shaila. We came together with a shared passion and commitment to supporting children and young people to have their voices heard and equip them with the skills and confidence to change the world for the better. Although we’ve set up Different Noise, we want young people to shape and lead the organisation with us. We‘ll therefore be recruiting a Youth Board to join our team and help grow a youth movement that’s making a positive difference.

I've spent many years working with children and young people in Brighton and Hove. I appreciate how complex and challenging transitioning from childhood to adulthood can be and have helped to coordinate many projects that support young people through those tricky times.

I believe that the voice and opinions of young people are invaluable and that as a society we are letting down the next generation by not handing them any control or power to make decisions and affect change themselves.

Hey there! I’m Josh. I started out as a volunteer at YMCA Right Here Brighton & Hove in 2020 where I took part in various projects as a youth ambassador.
Before Right Here I was volunteering in other projects whether that was work I made for myself such as being a mental health influencer with ERIC or a sports leader delivering physical education to young people with disabilities. Once I had left the YMCA, I co-founded Different Noise as the youngest director!

I’ve always had this burning passion to help others and find ways to give back to our communities. In my spare time I enjoy gaming, exploring new cities and trying new things such as food! I love trying new foods from around the world.

Hi, I'm Kim. I started out as a Peer Educator, way back when I was a teenager, for a project called SHADE (Sexual Health and Drugs Education). We toured schools and colleges to speak to young people and share harm minimisation information and where to go for support. This was where my passion for working with young people started, when I was one!

In my spare time, I love walking my dog and have a passion for horticulture. I love growing my own vegetables and flowers and love to see the garden looking like a jungle full of plants! I also found cold water swimming three years ago and this has been a great way of looking after myself and taking some time out for me.

Hi, I’m Mark. In 2010 I set up Right Here Brighton & Hove for the YMCA which had teams of Youth Ambassadors leading and working on different projects, all designed to enable young people to have their voices heard around issues that were affecting their lives.

After leaving the YMCA in 2021, I co-founded Different Noise to continue the legacy of Right Here, to help young people raise awareness and lead change around the issues that you feel passionate about.

Outside of my working life I am often to be found on a tennis court…I love tennis! I also like being outdoors in nature…oh, and I love cows (to be fair I do love most animals).

I have many years of amazing memories working with organisations that serve young people and loved every minute of it! My special interest has always been helping young people make changes in society to make it a more accommodating and welcoming place. My Degree focused on Young People’s Well-Being and my Masters on Youth Participation.
I love reading and learning, I love learning languages! I have loads of energy; running, cycling, swimming, boxing, weights, climbing, trampolining, yoga, Pilates… basically anything active. I am always moving forward whilst trying to stay present.

I'm excited to be a part of Different Noise as it means I can continue to champion and support young people making the changes they want to see in their lives, with others and across their worlds. I have worked localy across Sussex and nationally, with the Children’s Commissioner for England, to promote and facilitate children and young people's involvement in all matters that affect them, but especially their learning, health, well being and futures.
Now, as a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist, I bring a closer attention to the environments and people that influence us, together with an understanding of the inequalities that hurt us and the differences that make us.
